Why Umiya Raleigh is the perfect spot to eat before (and after) a Canes game

There's nothing quite like a Hurricanes game day in Raleigh. The red jerseys come out, the group chat lights up, and by mid-afternoon everyone is asking the same question: where are we eating before the Canes game?

If you're coming from North Raleigh, North Hills, or Wake Forest, we have a pretty good answer. Umiya Raleigh is an all-you-can-eat sushi and hot pot restaurant on East Six Forks Road, in the Creekside Crossing shopping center across from Costco and just inside the Beltline near North Hills. Lenovo Center (formerly PNC Arena) is about 7.7 miles away, roughly 15 minutes down I-440 West in normal traffic. That makes us an easy first stop on the way to the arena, and a great place to land once the game is over.

Our dining room near North Hills seats about 300, so there's room for the whole crew before puck drop.

A pregame dinner that's actually worth the stop

Arena food has its place, but standing in a concession line isn't anyone's idea of a real dinner. At Umiya, you sit down with your crew to all-you-can-eat sushi and hot pot and order as much as you like.

And no, it isn't a buffet. Everything is made to order and brought to your table, and you order by tablet, by scanning the QR code, or through your server. When the clock is ticking before puck drop, that's exactly what you want: you decide what comes next and when.

Sushi lovers can work their way through fresh rolls and sashimi. Hot pot fans get to choose from nine broths, from Original and Tomato to Szechuan Spicy, Japanese Miso, and Thai Tom Yum, then build the perfect dipping sauce at our DIY sauce bar. Can't agree as a group? Get both. Add a round of cocktails, sake, soju, beer, or wine (plus a milk tea for the designated driver), and game day is officially off to a great start.

“We tried the Szechuan Spicy broth and the pork bone broth for our hotpot, and both were packed with flavor; bold, rich, and satisfying.” Samantha T., Yelp Elite

Parking is easy, too. There's a free lot right next door, so you can park once, eat, and head to the arena without circling for a spot.

When to eat before the game so you never miss puck drop

Here's our rule of thumb: sit down at Umiya about 2 hours and 15 minutes before puck drop, and head out 1 hour before. For a 7:00 PM game, that means grabbing a table by 4:45 PM and hitting the road by 6:00 PM. Game at 7:30 or 8:00 instead? Just slide everything back.

That gives you about 75 minutes at the table, which is plenty of time to eat well without rushing and comfortably inside our 2-hour all-you-can-eat limit. The drive takes about 15 minutes on a normal day, but on game nights we'd plan on 25 to 30 minutes plus time to park. A tip from our team: put your first order in as soon as you sit down, then keep ordering a few items at a time.

On weekdays, dinner pricing starts at 3:30 PM: $32.95 per adult for sushi or hot pot, or $38.95 for both. Weekends are dinner pricing all day. And if you're headed to the 2:00 PM game on Monday, April 5, come in for lunch around 11:45 AM, when weekday lunch is $20.95 per adult for sushi or hot pot, or $26.95 for both.

After the game: keep the celebration going

Win or lose, a good game deserves a good meal afterward, and afternoon games are perfect for it. Most 1:00 PM games wrap up around 3:30 PM, so you can head back up I-440 and be at Umiya around 4:00, just in time for an early dinner. During the 2026–27 season, those afternoon home games are Sunday, Nov. 1; Saturday, Nov. 21; Sunday, Dec. 13; Sunday, Feb. 21; and Sunday, March 7.

The 5:00 PM game on Saturday, April 3 lets out around 7:30 PM, which lines up perfectly with a postgame dinner. For 7:00 PM games, though, plan on eating before puck drop. Our last all-you-can-eat seating is at 9:15 PM, before most night games wrap up.

Couldn't snag tickets? Watch the Hurricanes game with us

Not every game day ends at the arena. Hurricanes games are on our TVs, so you can grab a table with friends, get a hot pot bubbling, and catch the action without fighting arena traffic or paying for parking. All-you-can-eat seating is up to 2 hours, so to see the finish of a 7:00 PM game, sit down around 7:30.

Hosting the watch party at home instead? We've got you covered there, too. Order sushi rolls, sashimi, and appetizers online for pickup, or get delivery through Uber Eats, Grubhub, or DoorDash. All-you-can-eat is dine-in only, but your living room will thank you.

Bring the whole section

Game days are better with a crowd, and we have room for one. Our dining room seats about 300 guests, and our booths fit up to eight. Groups of 15 or more can call us at 919-896-6023 to reserve for Monday through Thursday games. On Fridays and weekends, everyone is seated first come, first served, so plan to get here a little early. Separate checks? No problem.
